Art Wheel 

This 10 week course provides an overview of the basic principles of art coupled with examples in art history. Topics include line, color, shape, texture, pattern, shading, form, perspective, composition, figure drawing and portraiture. Historical styles covered may include objective vs. nonobjective art, surrealism, impressionism and biomorphic art.  We will discuss the social significance and every day usefulness of art as a tool for communication, design and expression.  Students will be encouraged to develop appreciation for art as well as the ability to talk about artwork using visual thinking strategies.

 

Cartoons and Animation

This 20 week course provides an overview of the basic principles of art coupled with examples in art history. Topics include line, color, shape, texture, pattern, shading, cartoons, animation, form, perspective, composition, figure drawing and portraiture. Historical styles covered may include objective vs. nonobjective art, surrealism, impressionism and biomorphic art.  We will discuss the social significance and every day usefulness of art as a tool for communication, design and expression.  Students will be encouraged to develop appreciation for art as well as the ability to talk about artwork using visual thinking strategies.  There at least two art shows and one art contest during the year.

 

2016-17 Drawing, Painting and Ceramics  

This 20 week course provides an overview of the basic principles of art coupled with examples in art history. Topics include line, color, shape, texture, pattern, shading, form, perspective, composition, figure drawing, use of clay and portraiture. Historical styles covered may include objective vs. nonobjective art, surrealism, impressionism and biomorphic art.  We will discuss the social significance and every day usefulness of art as a tool for communication, design and expression.  Students will be encouraged to develop appreciation for art as well as the ability to talk about artwork using visual thinking strategies.  There at least two art shows and one art contest during the year.

 

2017 Yearbook/Art

This year long course provides instruction on the basic principles of art, design, photography, management and writing as each pertains to the creation of a yearbook.  Visual arts topics include line, color, shape, texture, pattern, shading, form, perspective, figure drawing, various media techniques, poster making (for contests and advertising) and principals of design.  Historical styles covered will include objective vs. nonobjective art, expressionism, pointillism, surrealism, cubism, impressionism, biomorphic art, and cartooning.  Budgeting, teamwork, leadership and advertising will also be important topics.  Students will use InDesign and Photoshop. The end result will be a quality yearbook.  Two field trips are planned for the Museum of Contemporary Art Grand and Geffen, plus public art/landmarks in downtown Los Angeles.  Students will use visual thinking strategies to develop conversations about art work.
